BYUB Morning Discussion

*warning - im not sure but the following post may seem a bit sacrilegious... but the conversation in question occured at BYU Broadcasting.... so its probably not.*

Background : Boss man, co-worker, and me are sitting here talking about KSL (Channel 5 in Utah, NBC) and how the church owns it. Boss man used to work there, so he was telling us all about it and how they don't play SNL and stuff. Then co asks how KSL can swing airing all the sessions of conference because that is 2 whole days and he can't imagine that the advertisements they show between sessions and stuff bring in a whole lot of revenue. Enter Conversation---

Boss- "Well think about it. What airs on Saturday and Sunday afternoons in the first place?
[dot dot dot... cricket cricket]
Me - "uh.. golf? maybe?
Boss - "Exactly, they don't get a lot of people watching anyways. Honestly, General Conference weekend probably gets more traffic than usual.
Co - "Well I just think to make a little money, since the ads are kinda lacking maybe the prophets and apostles should just start endorsing products....
[cue emily dyyyying with laughter]
Co continues - "Think about it. President Monson speaking, all of a sudden he pauses and says 'I could really go for a Dasani water right now. whips out a water bottle, takes a swig, and sets on the podium"
[cue emily/boss laughing harder]
Me - " or,  I just want to thank everyone for coming and remind you to drive home safe. And remember its best to be prepared, so stop at your nearest Chevron and fill up on gas today!"

And now I just keep picturing it, over and over and over again. It makes me smile/laugh everytime. Sometimes work is fun.

(I could really go for a Dasani right now)

Ok so maybe a little sacrilegious...

Virus or Power Outage?

How about both?! That is what my work day consisted of! First my computer gets this wicked virus wouldn't let me open anything but instead some um. less than good websites would kept popping up all over the place. no good* . Soooo what do you do when ur work computer has to be re-imaged... lunchtime! [nap in the park. yes please!]

I get back, not 5 minutes later, right after I got my new login and computer up and running.. power goes out. It was awesome! for those who don't know I work in a bit of a dungeon, no windows. Boy did my nickelcade flashlight keychain come in handy! We sat there in the dark for awhile, telling ghost stories until we were escorted out of the building, apparently BYU policy says you can't be in a building if the power is out. So what do you do when the power is out at work, there are about 50 people just standing outside waiting for the lights to come back? oh i know! Get the soccer ball, the kickball, and chalk you have stored in your trunk and play! It was like recess : )

And i definitely am glad that I was so prepared. About 15 minutes later we were informed that the power was not going to come back on and that we could all go home! Can life get better? I submit that it cannot!

That was at 2:30. I wasn't sure what i was going to do with a free afternoon its been awhile, but an idea came quickly. Enjoy a little bit of this- -

and a little sun time here.

Man was it a good day! sometimes technology backfiring can be such a blessing : ) I needed a relaxing afternoon!

* I was going to say no bueno instead of no good. But I had a friend tell me yesterday that if I say that in Chile I will look stupid so I should stop. Apparently they don't use that phrase.

Note Glee also went Gaga tonight and i was haaaappy!

Im not Afraid to Admit....

that sometimes I have very blonde tendencies...
Yesterday was an especially hard day for my brain. It just didn't seem to want to function correctly.

Evidence-
On my drive home from work I passed this sign.

sorry for the bad quality. cell phones man.. but in case you cant tell it says "Smoked Dog Bones $1.50"

And this is what went through my brian.
"Groooooss. who would want to eat that! Wait, is that even legal? yuck yuck yuck................
3 min.later (of thinking about how nasty that is/hoping i don't have to eat smoked dog bones in chile)
ooooohhhh.. DOG bones.. for like u kno. dogs..

Yes. i know. lets not even talk about the fact that I didnt consider that fact that people dont usually tend to eat bones. unfortunetly instances like this happen more often than not. But my next question is this. Why would they even adverise that? I mean really, do people drive down the road see that sign and immediately think. u know what, I think my dog would quite enjoy a smoked bone tonight, and for only $1.50 that is a freaking steal! yeah, i just dont think that happens.

Yesterday I also found out that I had simply forgotten to send a really important letter a month ago, had it all written, in my car. just never sent. And told my mom the wrong address to send my birth certifcate to, so that is currently lost somewhere in the mail. Awesome.
this blonde business i got going on here has got to stop.
see.. sometimes i even do have blonde hair.

Weekend Recap

This weekend was quite lovely.
a few things i enjoyed.

finding my hidden talent and passion for longboarding
late night talks
playing with a cute 10-month old boy named Alvin (and watching him suck on everything, my knee included)
making new friends
knowing the waiter and getting hooked up at Applebees
playing DDR and winning the jackpot at the Nickelcade
wonderful sunday lessons that pushed me to be better.
coma naps

a few things I could have done without
only sleeping 2 hours Friday night
sleeping through all my Sunday night plans
the cheese in the movie "Did you Hear About the Morgans"
forgetting my camera on all my weekend adventures : (   im working on this, i need to document my life!

I cant even think of anything else i didnt like about this weekend, the list of likes could go on forever tho. not to shabby for emily.

oh also. yesterday I decided that I am going to work on not partaking of things that are harmful for my body both physically and spiritually. ie. junk foods, candy, fast foods, then also things like excessive amounts of movies, hulu, music exc. Instead im going to be eating fruits, veggies, whole grains, chicken. etc -- and then spending more of my time running, being outdoors, hanging with friends, reading the scriptures etc. I think this will greatly improve the slight funk i have been in lately. : )

Just FYI

Piano music on the ipod and a lunchtime nap is the best way to spend an hour lunch break. It was rejuvenating, relaxing, simply glorious, and very needed.

This scripture is beautiful and may have just been the thing that got me through this week. It possibly might become my new favorite.

"Verily, verily, I say unto you, ye are little children, and ye have not as yet understood how great blessings the Father hath in his own hands and prepared for you; And he cannot bear all things now;nevertheless, be of good cheer, for I will lead you along. The kingdom is yours and the blessings thereof are yours, and the riches of eternity are yours. And he who receiveth all things with thankfulness shall be made glorious; and the things of this earth shall be added unto him, even an hundred fold, yea more."
D&C 78:17-19

ps- I really really want an old school Polaroid camera. I can just picture the possibilities and enjoyment that would bring! Fun huh? and the pictures just look cool and vintagy. Im in love.

Mi Future Kitchen

One thing about being a college student is the occasional feeling of never having an actual home. I mean I have been living in Provo for the majority of the time the last 4 years, but still when I think of home, Washington comes to mind. Not only that but I have had 6 apartments the last 4 years, only living in one place for at the longest 8 months at a time. Because of this nomadish lifestyle I find myself thinking about my future house and how I plan on decorating it. I cannot wait to buy stuff and paint and decorate it all cute! I know it is going to be in a long long time but scouts motto be prepared right!? So today I found these pictures on this design blog http://emmas.blogg.se/index.html and fell in love!

I love the crispness of the white and then the pop of the bright yellow and turquoise. It just looks so fresh and happy. I can just picture buying this yellow mixer

and other yellow and blue kitchen utensils and whipping up culinary masterpieces!

Yeah. I want a house.
